Welcome Back!!!

Our Infamous Build!
First of all, words cannot express the joy that I have as your 5th and 6th grade teacher at BIS!
I am continually amazed by these kids!  They work so hard and are such great kids.

Science Fair:
February 28, 2014
Students will receive a hard copy and the file on their Pen Drives.
It is very important that the students turn in all parts of this project on time, and that they pick an age appropriate project that they are motivated to find the answer to.

Christmas Musical Photo Shoot!

International Fair:
April 25, 2014
Click to view/download the 5th & 6th Grade International Fair Deadlines.
I know that we are getting started pretty early on this project.  However, this will alleviate much stress as it gets closer to presentation day.
Ask your child what their country is.
Try to stop by the Embassy in Brasilia.
We will have weekly deadlines for this project, and spend at least 2 class periods per week preparing for International Fair.
We will spend the other class periods in the normal BIS curriculum.

Please EMAIL ME if you have any questions.

Reading
The 4th - 6th graders will begin reading The Giver by Lois Lowry this week.  Please try to read along with your child because it will probably cause them to have some great questions about freedom and government.  Although it is more advanced than Number the Stars, the kids will be not just reading to be entertained, but for academics.  Encourage them to ask hard questions and work through those questions with them at home.

The 3rd graders will be reading Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.  This book will also bring up topics like lying, stealing, and ethics.  Please be prepared for some good dinner-time conversations with your child.
